Refugees and asylum seekers are entitled to full protection under the 1951 Geneva Convention, the 1967 Protocol, and the 2006 Ugandan Constitution. Let’s work together to ensure they receive their rights, including education, healthcare, employment, freedom to travel, freedom of worship, access to justice, non-discrimination, protection from expulsion, protection from punishment for irregular entry into the territory of a contracting state, decent work, housing, land and property rights, and intellectual property rights.

Refugees are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children, with the same hopes and ambitions as us—except that a twist of fate has bound their lives to a global refugee crisis on an unprecedented scale. A refugee is someone who survived and who can create the future.

Refugees also have obligations: respect for laws and regulations, non-engagement in political activities, non-involvement in criminal activities, respect for public order and peace, residence in designated areas, participation in community activities, reporting changes in status, and collaboration with authorities.
